Why do independent ATMs exist?
Simply put, people like to use cash and it’s becoming increasingly more popular. For many years banks have moved away from operating in smaller town centres and unfortunately people still need cash, and independent ATMs are an effective solution.
In Australia, Canada, UK and USA, independent ATMs now represent 60% of the total ATM market. Currently, New Zealand remains an emerging market.
There is a huge opportunity for retailers, particularly service stations. If you currently provide cash out via EFTPOS, and if this occurs around 25 times each day, then you could receive rebates of $3,810.00 every year.
As well as a new revenue source, the 7–11 study in Australia shows that with an ATM on site, foot traffic is likely to increase as much as 30% and sales revenue increases between 11–13%.
What’s in it for you?
- Share of convenience fee, providing more revenue
- Increase in customer spend and loyalty
- Save money on cash handling fees
- Reduced customer waiting time
- Increased customer traffic from people coming in to use the ATM machine.
How it works
- The independent ATM is generally placed inside a business operating in the fuel, convenience store or hospitality industry
- The retailer cash fills the machine
- The cardholder pays a convenience fee for each cash withdrawal
- The money withdrawn is credited into the retailer’s nominated bank account just like EFTPOS and the retailer receives a commission from the convenience fee.
