Sprint Gas Racing Cars in Top 10

Sprint Gas Racing has made an outstanding start to the 2009 Super Cheap Auto Bathurst 1000 with both of its cars finishing in the top seven – with Bargwanna and Noske second.

Today’s results show that both driver pairings are capable of a top result at Bathurst this year.

Finishing a close second behind last year’s winners today, Bargwanna and Noske were two very happy people.

“It’s been a long time since I attended a media conference, hello to everyone that I have not met before,” an upbeat Jason Bargwanna said.

“The car is very good; it is obviously good to do a 2.07 this early in the weekend.

“We had some problems with the power steering early in the day that lost us some time, but once adjusted we made steady progress.

“There’s still a lot more in it, we expect to improve further throughout the weekend.

“I for one am very happy, we had good speed and the changes we did had a positive impact.

“I think we are in the window in terms of car development, we only needed to make very small changes to get a positive outcome. A few further refinements might help us compete for pole.

“Pole would be nice but the focus is on Sunday’s 161 laps – that’s way more important than pole position.”

The car 51 pairing of Greg Murphy and Mark Skaife also had a positive day finishing seventh. Both drivers were happy with today’s progress.

“We started the day on an ordinary set of tyres and had some power steering issues which took us a while to sort out, but we knuckled down and improved throughout the afternoon,” Mark Skaife said.

“The car is not quite where it needs to be but there are some encouraging signs. We have a menu of small things that we want to focus on tomorrow, but essentially I’m satisfied with our day.”

Murphy agreed with his co-driver.

“The car is not as good as it was last year but it is not far away,” Murphy said.

“We just need to give it a polish in a few places to make it flow better and it will be there.

“All in all it’s been a pretty positive start to the weekend.”

Mark Noske is looking forward to some more track time tomorrow following a string of session stoppages.

“Every time I was in the car a red flag came out - I didn’t get much or a run,” Noske said.

“I’ll be hoping from some decent time tomorrow.

“Fortunately after four years with the team I have an understanding of the cars so I’m not too concerned.

“After a day like today you start thinking about podiums, but you’ve got to ground yourself because at the end of the day it’s Thursday.”

Jason Bargwanna and Mark Noske finished today’s Bathurst practice session second and Greg Murphy and Mark Skaife were seventh.
