Murphy Top 10 First Day on the Job With Castrol EDGE Commodore

Greg Murphy has enjoyed his first day on the job driving the new Castrol EDGE Commodore
for Paul Morris, the four time Bathurst winner recording the tenth quickest time during
today’s practice for the Gulf Air Desert 400 in Bahrain.

Murphy tested with the team at Queensland Raceway earlier this month, but missed the first
round of the championship in Abu Dhabi last week due to a prior commitment to the Top
Gear Live stadium show in New Zealand.

The 36 year old flew into Bahrain Tuesday and continued his familiarisation program with the PMM team and his Castrol EDGE Commodore.

Murphy elected to use just the one set of ‘green’ tyres in practice, preferring to keep hold of
as much of the new rubber as he could from his weekend allocation ahead of tomorrow and
Saturday’s vital qualifying sessions – a strategy also used by team-mate Russell Ingall.

The V8 Supercars are using the full 5.4km Grand Prix track for the first time in Bahrain, the
surface known for being extremely hard on tyre wear.

Ingall also had a solid day, the Enforcer one spot ahead of Murphy on the timesheets at the
end of the day using the same, tyre saving strategy.

Friday will see qualifying, the Top 10 Shootout and Race 3, with the event concluding with
another qualifying session and Race 4 Saturday.

Greg Murphy, #51 Castrol EDGE Holden Commodore VE:
“First day on the job with the Castrol EDGE Holden team and it was a really good day. I’ve
been trying to work my way through all the idiosyncrasies and this place is really tough on
setup and atrocious on V8 Supercar tyres. It’s really difficult to know where I’m at until we’re
all on the same page, the same tyres, but I think we’re good, the car seems good on the new tyre. The test will be how it looks after itself over a distance, that’s the question mark. I’m very happy first up though and I’m very comfortable in the car.”
