Malcolm Whinham – Warrant of Fitness trainer

Malcolm is our Training Facilitator, and leading instructor in the field of automotive technology.

Malcolm brings nearly 40 years knowledge of the motor industry to MTA courses. Malcolm has been with MTA for a number of years and facilitates a range of training courses around the country such as warrant of fitness (WoF) courses.

He completed an apprenticeship and worked for companies such as Massey Ferguson and British Rail in England, before his career brought him to New Zealand in 1976 where he continued working as an Automotive Engineer. Malcolm soon joined the NZ Army where he had a variety of roles, including a stint at McMurdo Station in Antarctica servicing a variety of specialised vehicles, and as a supervisor responsible for the M113 Armoured Personnel Carrier and Scorpion Tank Vehicle Rebuild Section.

His career then took a different path with a posting at the Army’s Trade Training School as an Apprentice Instructor. It was this role that led to his appointment in 2002 as MTA's Training Facilitator.

Malcolm continues to keep current with the latest advances in vehicle technology, and ensures that his teaching skills are also up to date. His involvement as a WorldSkills NZ Technical Delegate has allowed him to  help young people with a passion for the automotive industry, succeed.
