Bargwanna's Hamilton Track Lesson
Jason Bargwanna had a track lesson at Sprint Gas Racing’s Dandenong base last week in preparation for this week’s Hamilton 400 in New Zealand.
Not having driven the street circuit before in a V8 Supercar, Bargwanna listened intently to the team’s engineering staff and Greg Murphy hoping to extract as much information as possible.
“Sprint Gas Racing normally has an engineering pre-event briefing going into each round, but this one was a little more important for me given I’ve not raced at Hamilton in a V8 before,” Jason Bargwanna said.
“Every track has its little idiosyncrasies so it’s interesting to get an idea of what to expect from both an engineering and driver point of view.
“We studied Murph’s in-car footage, had a good look at the data and got my head around braking points.
“I really lean on the experience of the team. I may be driving a V8 there for the first time but I want to be competitive.
“We were twelfth at the Grand Prix so I want to up the momentum and take the next step. I think we can do that at Hamilton.”
Bargwanna’s V8 debut at Hamilton this weekend is the first time since Bahrain in 2006 where he’s had to learn a new circuit.
“It’s always exciting going to a new race track,” Bargwanna said.
“I love the challenge, not just from a driving perspective but from an analytical perspective.
“One of my strengths as a driver is my ability to learn a track quickly, get it right and build up to qualifying.
“Your first drive at a new track is always memorable: I hope to remember this event for all the right reasons come Sunday afternoon.”
