Bargs' Top 10 at Winton
Sprint Gas Racing’s Jason Bargwanna has finished the sixth race of the 2009 V8 Supercar season in 10th place.
Bargwanna freshened up his career statistics on Sunday thanks to some impressive performances. He had his best round result since Bahrain 2007, his best race result since Indy 2007 and his best qualifying result since Eastern Creek that same year.
Bargwanna started the day qualifying in 12th place, missing the top five by two-10ths of a second, and went on to finish 10th. With one lap to go he was in eighth place but was passed by Marcus Marshall and David Reynolds who were racing on the faster soft option tyres.
The season has finally started for Bargwanna following disappointing results in the first several races of the season.
“My 2009 has finally begun,” a very happy Jason Bargwanna said.
“We absolutely have no doubt about what we should be doing. We’ve had some results go begging, we’ve had a few mechanical problems and I’ve made a mistake or two, but ... everything went right … and to plan.
“It’s a sensational feeling when things go as you expect them too.
“It’s also good to have some rhythm. Every race where we’ve had a drama has affected our rhythm.
“I’m just so disappointed about (Saturday's) race. Everything was going so well. We should be heading to the next round celebrating two top 10 results and improved performance.
“Knowing we are competitive is the key though. It was good to be racing with the top cars and holding our own.”
The ever positive Bargwanna has never doubted his ability behind the wheel, but he admits the confidence is now sky high.
“This result not only gives me confidence, but it lifts the entire team,” Bargwanna said.
“Every change we made to the car responded how we expected it to.
“It’s been a fantastic weekend of development for the team.
“We’re all confident that this is not only the start of our season but the start of what should be a good flow of results.”
Greg Murphy started (Sunday's) race on soft tyres and went from 20th to second on the road. After the fuel stop he came out in 25th place and was 20th at the waving of the chequered flag.
“The car was better (Sunday), no doubt, but we lost out with the safety car,” Murphy said.
“If the safety car hadn’t come out we’d be smiling today.”
