MTA Gift Card – frequently asked questions
The MTA Gift Card has been around a little while now, but you might have some questions about it. Read on to find out just what you need to know.
How will I recognise an MTA Gift Card? All MTA Gift Cards contain the MTA logo on both the front and the back of the card.
Who can redeem an MTA Gift Card? MTA Gift Cards can only be redeemed through participating MTA members.
What can I buy with a Gift Card? Most products or services that are sold by MTA members can be purchased using a Gift Card, with the exception of those products or services purchased online through a member’s own website or an unmanned service station.
Do I get change if I don’t spend the full value of the Gift Card in one purchase? No, no change can be given when using an MTA Gift Card to make a purchase. If you don’t spend the full balance in one purchase, you can keep using the card until the balance is zero. You can also use the balance as a part payment for a purchase, that way you’ll always use up the full balance on your gift card.
How many times can an MTA Gift Card be used? You can use your card as many times as you like until the full balance has been used, or the card expires.
If a card breaks, can it be replaced or refunded? Sorry, no. We are unable to replace, refund or transfer the balance on a Gift Card. The same applies if it’s defaced, mutilated, altered, lost or stolen. Gift cards should be treated like cash as the balance on the card can be spent by the person who holds the card.
How do I find the balance on a card? Look for the 16-digit number on the back of the card then scratch off the grey panel to reveal the pin. Once you have this information either call 0800 222 882 or check online here.
How do I know what value has been loaded onto my card?
- MTA members activate the card using their EFTPOS terminal by loading the value the customer has chosen. Once the balance is loaded, customers will be given an EFTPOS receipt showing the amount that’s on the card.
- You can also check the balance on your card at any time after activation by clicking here or calling 0800 222 882.
Does a gift card expire? Yes, 12 months after the date it was purchased. To confirm the expiry date check it out online here. Any unused balance remaining on the card at expiry will not be refunded or credited and is non-transferrable.
If I order online, when will I receive my order? MTA Gift Cards are sent by courier, signature required. Urban orders outside of Auckland made by 3.30pm, will be delivered in the next one to three business days. Due to high demand in Auckland, urban delivery orders made by 3.30pm should take two to three business days. Rural orders may take up to four days.
What should I do if I haven't received my order? If you don’t receive your order within three days, please call 04 381 8821 to cancel your order. Note: MTA Gift Cards cannot be replaced if we are not advised within three days of activation.
