A chance to drive an EV

Our Car Show of the Century provides an opportunity for people not just to look on the cars we love but to look toward to the future.

A big part of that future will be electric vehicles so the Better NZ Trust is giving visitors to the event a chance to take an EV for a quick spin.

The Trust promotes the 'Leading the Charge', which is a community initiative to encourage the growth of EVs within the New Zealand fleet.

As part of this, a dozen electric cars are being driven from Bluff to Cape Reinga and stopping off at MTA100 along the way.

Trustee Sigurd Magnusson says some of the cars will be on display; others available for a ride or test drive.

“Electric vehicles are powerful, have amazing acceleration, they’re quiet and great for the environment. Many are much cheaper than you might expect. A used import Nissan Leaf can sell for around $12,000.”

The line-up under the TSB Arena sails will include: Audi A3 e-Tron, BMW i3, Hyundai Ioniq, Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, Tesla Model S and possibly a Tesla Model X.

The cars are privately owned and will be available for short 10 minute trips. Form an orderly queue folks and drive carefully!
